Brenda's Story

Brenda says, “Ask yourself regularly, is my body working okay and if it isn’t then ask yourself 'WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY BODY?' and go immediately and get help to answer these questions from a Doctor."

Brenda was a lively 23 year old working in a city office doing secretarial work and sitting at a computer for long periods of time. She had no health problems and she never really needed to go to the Doctor. She actually had not seen one for a very long time.

One day whilst doing her work her vision became fuzzy and blurred and she had difficulty focusing. She was also experiencing tension headaches most every day. These things happening to her body made her feel weird and they worried her so she decided that she needed to see a Doctor as soon as possible. She made some enquiries and found a Doctor nearby in a city medical centre who bulk billed because she did not have much money to spare and so she went to see the Doctor in her lunch hour.

The Doctor was pleasant and said she did not think there was anything too serious but she ordered a CAT scan just to be sure. On examination the only thing the Doctor could find was that Brenda’s reflexes were slightly affected.

Brenda went back the next day to get the CAT scan results to be told that they had found a brain tumour which required surgery immediately. This tumour had nothing to do with her blurred vision which was coming from her having a low blood pressure. This tumour was found by accident because Brenda had been diligent in listening to her body and going to the Doctor as soon as she noticed something not right.

The specialist who treated Brenda’s tumour said she only had one year to live if the tumour had not been found. She had surgery within three weeks and made a full recovery and now is happily married with a beautiful son.

Brenda says “The motto of this story is, do not delay if your body is not functioning really well.” SEE YOUR DOCTOR ASAP.
