Family
Picnic Day 2006
The final Arthritis NSW event for Arthritis
Week 2006 was the annual Family Picnic
Day for children and young adults with
arthritis and their families. After 2 years
at Parramatta Park, this year’s picnic
was held at the Haynes Flat picnic area
in the Lane Cove National Park. Approximately
80 people attended the picnic with a very
good turnout of younger children and their
families. Thankfully the weather was sunny
and warm although it was a little windy
at the start of the day.
Before too long, a game of cricket was
underway down the far end of the picnic
area and the online parents group of children
with arthritis was handing out balloons
to any child who wanted one. After everyone
had filled up on the food, Nadine Garland
gathered all the parents together to update
them on a few of the juvenile idiopathic
arthritis (JIA) projects that are currently
underway. These include the teacher’s
kit produced by Arthritis Australia, the
JIA book for parents and children being
developed by Arthritis NSW and the proposal
to make the online parents group a formal
Arthritis NSW support group. The rest of
the day was spent relaxing, sharing stories
and experiences, and spending time with
new and old friends.
