HEALTHY BONES WEEK
5th-11th August 2007
Healthy Bones Week was held from the 5th-11th August. The theme of the week was What’s For Lunch?
Among other activities, we held a lunch for the students of Burnside Public school in North Parramatta. Burnside Public School are very supportive of our Healthy Bones Weeks Activities and it was great to be involved with them again this year.
We had tables full of dairy products like cheeses and yoghurts which the children were able to sample once they had finished lunch.
After the dairy sampling, Physiotherapist Helen Sinclair led the school in a short exercise session highlighting the importance of exercise in maintaining healthy bones.
NSW Speed Blitz Blue's Cricketer Dominic Thornley kindly gave up his time to come and sign autographs and talked to the school about his interest in sport from a young age and how he realised his dreams of playing cricket professionally. He also spoke about the importance of building strong bones through exercise. Dominic asked the children what Healthy Bones Week was all about. The answers of ‘healthy eating”, “building strong bones” and “exercise” came back! We cant really ask for much more that that.
Four members of the Western Sydney Razorback's basketball team then gave a great basketball demonstration on the new court and some of the kids were invited to shoot some hoops with them.
We’d like to extend a big thank you to Burnside school for being so supportive of our Healthy Bones Week and to the kids who helped to make it a really fun day.
